Wishing all our patients and their families a joyful and vibrant Holi! Here's a quick guide from Dr. Ghosh's clinic to ensure your celebrations are both happy and healthy while aiding your post-op recovery:
🌈 Celebrate a Safe & Healthy Holi! Your Post-Op Survival Guide 🌈
Hygiene & Care
Be exceptionally gentle when removing colors from the surgical area; avoid any scrubbing.
Continue to keep the surgical area clean and dry, strictly following your prescribed hygiene routine, and apply any prescribed ointments diligently.
Activity & Movement
Incorporate light physical movement, such as short 5-10 minute walks every few hours, to aid your overall recovery, as recommended for early mobilization.
Balance your participation with sufficient rest. While incorporating light walking, make sure to avoid prolonged sitting and use a soft cushion for comfort when you do sit.
Remember the "no-strain rule": Avoid any movements or activities that could cause straining.
Strict Avoid: Do not engage in strenuous exercise or lift any heavy objects (e.g., weights) for at least the recommended first 2 weeks post-surgery.
Strict Avoid: Continued recovery also necessitates avoiding any heavy lifting (greater than 5kg) for at least 3-4 weeks.
Diet & Hydration
Continue prioritizing a high-fiber diet with plenty of water (3-4 liters daily) to keep stools soft and effortless to pass.
Even amidst the festivities, ensure you drink 3-4 liters of water every single day for proper hydration.
While celebrating, stick to your dietary restrictions: Avoid spicy food, caffeine, and alcohol, especially during the specified early recovery phase (e.g., first 7-10 days).
Special Instructions
Ensure you take any prescribed stool softeners, especially at bedtime.
Maintain a consistent bowel habit and avoid lingering on the toilet for more than 5 minutes.
If recommended for your condition and timeframe, continue daily Sitz baths (10-15 minutes, 2-3 times daily) using lukewarm water.
Enjoy the colors safely and prioritize your health! Remember, consistent care is vital to a smooth and fast recovery. If you experience any severe symptoms or have questions, please consult the clinic immediately.
Warmly, Dr. D. Ghosh Senior Consultant Laparoscopic Surgeon, Gurgaon
Surgeon's Secret Tip: Don't wait for the urge, but NEVER sit on the toilet for more than 5 minutes. Walk around if needed.
